I am a smart professional woman who has (and still is) learning the "hard way" about relationships. This book (What Smart Women Know)  is an awesome resource for a quick pick-me-up. It's super easy to read ... You can turn to any page and start reading without being lost. I've "doggy-eared" so many pages that I want to remember so I can flip to them quickly. It's full of one-liner realities that you never think of, but they make a whole lot of sense. Some of my favorites: "Smart women know that a woman's most powerful sense is her sense of self;" or "Experience is what you get when you don't get what you want;" and "Smart women have the sense to appreciate a man who has no interesting problems."

I am buying What Smart Women Know for all of my single (and should-be-single) girlfriends for their birthdays... Whether they want it or not! It's a must-read for women who are in the bad habit of not valuing themselves enough in relationships.

This book is so real, cuts through the b.s., and tells women what is essential for keeping sane in our relationships with men.

I picked up "What Smart Women Know" in a bookstore about 15 years ago, when I was 21 and in a bad relationship. I have kept this book, and I know it has helped me through many other relationships, over the past 15 years.

I am not even going to cite sayings from the book, because I couldn't do it justice that way.

I feel lucky I wandered into that book store and grabbed this book. I have read many other self-help/relationship books, and they did not help me in any way near as much as "What Smart Women Know"

I think many of us would ultimately get the love we deserve if we paid atttention to much of the advice in this book.

I bought this book for the first time after my first marriage ended (should have read the book before I married him). Not long after, I thought I was in love with a man who had some interesting problems. Thank goodness I read the book and realized that I couldn't help him. I've given multiple copies of this book away and have loaned it out to many others. It's currently on loan to a friend who is going through a divorce. I'm married to a wonderful man and I like to flip through the book just to remind myself how lucky I really am to have a man who loves me and respects me. He understands me and I understand him. I love being a smart woman because I'm a happy woman. I'm about to order this book for my niece. She doesn't yet know what smart women know.~K.S.

I selected this book for my 16 year old daughter a few months ago because she has a boyfriend who was doing and saying things that made her uncomfortable. She devoured it and made many notations in the margins. Since then, she has asked me to order the book for two female friends. She became very empowered by the straight forward advise given in the book and seemed relieved to finally be able to solidify her priorites. We are a family that models healthy relationships, but sometimes teens need various forms of healthy support in order to make values clear(church, teachers, mentors). This book was one of those sources for my daughter.~Marcia

I bought this book (What Smart Women Know) for a third time, because I keep giving it away to young women who see it on my shelf and want to borrow it. What I like about this book is it doesn't seem so self-help-like. It isn't chapter after chapter of "do this or that". While the anecdotes seem a little hokey, they are representative of reality and the sorts of relationships us women mistakenly fall into. What I really like are the aphorisms and lists which make it possible for the reader to just pick it up and flip through it. This is one of the perks of this book, it doesn't have to be "stacked" on your nightstand waiting to be read, it can be leafed through anytime you feel the need for some direction.

One of my all time favorite quotes I learned from this book is, "If your boyfriend tells you his ex-wife/ex-girlfriend tried to run him over in her car. . . she probably has her reasons."~Ruth

What Smart Women know is a must-read for any female. It begins a little slow, but picks up into the middle with some GREAT tips on how to live your own life. It will put things in proper perspective on everything from: getting over a failed relationship, what to expect during the healing process, and most importantly: how a smart woman should conduct herself in future relationships. It also deals with women dating after divorce, a section on how to spot an abusive man, as well as how to talk to your partner about safe sex. It is such a great book and would certainly make a great gift for any young woman.~KBeautifil

If you want to read a very good book about relationships you should read "What Smart Women Know," written by Steven Carter & Julia Sokol. This is a good book you should keep and read over and over again.

It's mostly about male and female relationships, and covers topic about what you can do when you break up and how you can tell the good guys from the bad guys.Some of my favorite quotes include," All of the good one may be taken but so are many of the bad ones,"and "any man who falls in love quickly can fall out of love just as quickly."

What Smart Women Know

I have this book and LOVE it. It's not the most complex of books you will ever read, and it certainly doesn't delve deep into the psyche of the female mind...but it does provide you with some sound advice for those times when we excuse or overlook certain traits that, if our friends were involved with men who were exhibiting the same traits we'd be all over them with advice.

This isn't a 'self-help' book, but does provide you with the necessary grounding you can get when you are a smart woman trying to make a go of it in our stubbornly coupled society. We can often overlook what our smart selves would see as a blatant flaw. 'Smart Women..' just reminds us that the behaviors we might be so easy to excuse at the expense of a boyfriend really are pretty awful or could signal something more.

I recommend this book for young women or single woman who struggles occasionally with the topsy-turvy world of dating.~C.K.O.

This book lived up to its reviews, and far exceeded all of my expectations for greatness. I wish I'd had this as a teenager before I destroyed my 37 years with abusive relationships & problems related to my lack of self-worth (due to childhood trauma, abuse & rapes). Then again, I might not have been ready to absorb it then.

In any case, this is a MUST HAVE for any woman who's ever been abused, exploited, used or had a string of abusive relationships--or wants to avoid them, meaning every woman alive. Every page described common errors women have made,and I related to all of them! This book covers every single situation anyone could encounter in relationships, even what red flags to look for on 1st dates, with real-life examples everyone will recognize. I found myself laughing at some of my mistakes & grateful for the explicit instructions on how to avoid repeating them.

It is now my most-valuable tool towards one day having a mutually healthy life partner. In the meantime, it also will help with all of my other relationships with friends, family, co-workers, etc. I've written in the margins, highlighted just about every page, and will refer to it time & time again as life's challenges give me opportunities to practice the wisdom between these priceless pages.
